One of the only pieces of art I own is a painting called “Grattitude” by Peter Tunney. Yes, the double-t’s are intentional, as in, “Attitude of Gratitude.” So I have good eyes and ears for this belief in others. Read on…
I live just outside Philadelphia, and it’s been a great time year for Philadelphia sports teams (Ahem, well, most of them…Sixers not so much). But this weekend saw the Houston Astros defeat the Phillies in the World Series.
In a post-game interview, Phillie’s right fielder, Nick Castellanos channeled timeless wisdom when he said:
"There's no way around it, man, it's a sh*tty feeling. But at the same time, grateful for the opportunity to have this sh*tty feeling because there's a lot of teams and players that have never been able to play in the World Series."
Sure he experiences the expected feelings of disappointment, loss, defeat, and he feels grateful for the opportunity, the experience, knowing how many others would love to be in his position.
Self-Coaching Questions:
What areas of your life are causing you the most stress right now? What areas of your life are disappointing you? How many others would do almost anything to have your problems and challenges instead of their own?
Feeling overwhelmed at work; colleagues annoying you? How many others would love to have the job, the pay, the benefits that you do?
Feeling the stress of mid-term exams, or disappointed by low grades? How many others would love to be attending the college or high-school that you do?
Annoyed by the chores and maintenance required of your home? How many others will die to live where you do?

Great post on the importance of gratitude, and shows the focus on the gain, not the gap.
