59. I Tried Mega-Millionaire Alex Hormozi's Weird Solomon Journal Technique—Results Surprised Me
What happens when you talk to your 90-year old self?
Hello, and welcome back. In the previous issue, I explained how you can Decode Your Kids’ Mental Health with 1 Simple Question, and in this edition, I share a really weird ritual that can ease stress and lead to breakthrough thinking.

“That’s stupid, I can’t believe he really does that,” was my first reaction to Alex Hormozi’s weird Monday morning routine.
If you don’t know of Alex, he is an entrepreneur worth over $100 million, who posts a ridiculous amount of videos and articles to help others on their journey. He shared a unique weekly ritual he does every Monday morning.
Alex sits down to have a dialogue with his 80-year-old self. It's an imaginative journaling exercise that feels like a conversation between his present and future selves. He literally types in his phone a stream-of-consciousness conversation back and forth with himself.
Intrigued and initially skeptical, I decided to give it a try. But first, why would such a seemingly strange exercise be effective?
The answer lies in the "Solomon Effect," a psychological principle that suggests we're far better at giving advice to others than to ourselves.
Named after the Biblical King Solomon—a man known for his wisdom yet paradoxically inept at solving his own life's chaos—this principle resonates. Leaders, thinkers, and people from all walks of life often excel at providing actionable insights for others but falter when it comes to self-guidance.
Armed with this new knowledge, I hesitated briefly before diving into my own conversation with my 90-year-old self. (I’m already too old for 80-year-old me to feel that different; I wanted to chat with a rocking chair 90-year-old me!)
My questions to my future self centered on a series of work-related issues causing me stress lately. Really making me dislike my job. Specifically, challenges and frustrations I’ve been having with other team members.
