BILLION DOLLAR VALUES CLARIFICATION QUESTION

TRANSCRIPT:
I saw two things about a minute apart this morning that made me think about values, and I wanted to share them. Not values like some deep sense, like values that we act on every day, like are our compass aligned or we move it in the right direction?
So one thing was someone put a tweet out on Twitter, it's not called that anymore, I'll still call it Twitter. He asked, what amount of money would it take for you to give up golf. And for me, I thought it was a weird tweet because it'd be like, I don't know, a dollar, a penny, because I don't golf. I don't care about golf. But apparently, if you're a golfer, you really care about golf, and it'd take a lot of money for you to give up the game. So that one didn't land, but it was kind of an interesting question. And then I read, I'm forgetting, I wanted to attribute it and I forget who it was.
He sent out an email that said, what would you, not give up for a billion dollars? What would you not give up? What would you not be willing to sacrifice for a billion dollars? And that kind of stopped me. And I guess, , the first answer, the obvious answer is like family, , friends, and relationships. If I had to not talk to my family ever again, but I could have a billion dollars. No, don't want the billion dollars. And I thought, hopefully that's true for you too.
And I thought more and I thought even like some of the health practices if I had to never again exercise for a billion dollars. Now that's tempting because I hate exercising. But I think that the quality of my life and the length of my life would be so shortened by not exercising, I wouldn't give that up even for a billion dollars. It's similar like you, you can never. Eat fruits and vegetables again for a billion dollars. I wouldn't do it.
And also, , as I kind of thought about other things, like I realized I would not be willing to, I would be willing to give up my phone. I would be willing to give up my phone, but I wouldn't give up reading. And that's not one that's maybe an obvious one. Like, and where this gets valuable as I started to realize. Okay, if I enjoy reading books and newspapers and things that much, that I wouldn't trade it for a billion dollars, how often am I doing it? And right now, not very much. I try to read in the morning, but it's not for very long, and I can really get lost in books and things. It's just very, very rare for me to invest time in it.
And so that was an interesting thing. It's sort of like, okay, so part two of this exercise is like, what would you not give up, my health, my relationships, turns out reading. What else? And then look at how much time you are spending on these things. Of course, like a key to success is time blocking. Are you blocking time for workouts? Are you blocking time for rest and recovery? Are you blocking time for date night every week or two weeks or whatever?
And so this is an exercise that, I would encourage you to do as well. , think about over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine or something, , spend some time, what would you not give up even for a billion dollars? And then once you have your answer, once you sort of have your list, how much time are you spending on those things these days? What do you have to do to create or to prioritize those things to do more of them in your life? Good luck.
What would you NOT give up even for a billion dollars?
How much time are you spending on those things?
How can you time block more time for these high value activities?
Until the next issue, remember…
